Frequently Asked Questions: Small Groups
A small group at Mount of Olives is a gathering of individuals who come together regularly to study the Bible, pray, worship, and support one another in their faith journeys. These groups typically consist of around 6 to 10 members and are often organized based on similar interests, life stages, or demographics, such as age, gender, or marital status.
Activities in a small group may include studying a specific book of the Bible, discussing sermons or Christian books, engaging in prayer and worship together, participating in outreach or service projects, and simply spending time fellowshiping and building friendships.
Small groups provide a more intimate setting for members to discuss and apply biblical teaching to their daily lives, share personal struggles and victories, and build deeper relationships with one another. Overall, small groups play a vital role in fostering discipleship, nurturing spiritual growth, and building a tight-knit community within the larger church congregation.

Small group meetings are about 90 minutes long. Most groups meet 1-2x a month, either at a group member’s home or at the church campus, depending on need and availability. We also encourage groups to mix in social outings in between the Bible studies – think dinners, beach days or BBQs.
Each small group will have a "Shepherd" to help lead and facilitate the group members and activities. In addition, someone will be responsible for bringing the snacks, another for the drinks, and another will host the meeting at their home. How this is arranged is up to the group. Most groups will alternate these roles each meeting.
At a typical meeting, you can expect a warm and welcoming environment where members gather for various activities centered around faith and fellowship. Here's what you can expect to encounter:
